Intersection of environmental works by artists: Jenny Carey and Debra Radke

Carey's photographic work is from a continuing project, With Each Passing Wave, Erosion, which began in 2019.  Her images document drawings created in the sand by the Pacific tide in Costa Rica.The perspective of the photographs, taken from above, is cartographic. The ocean tide creates maps of the earth, abstract images, and drawing of trees, which are very quickly erased by the tide. In some photographs, the edge of a footprint on a drawing is visible—evidence of her or someone else's careless step in the natural world. She shares photographs from this project to question and reconcile behavior toward the environment she sees as increasingly fragile and uncertain. Radke has an MFA in Painting & Printmaking and creates original prints, including serigraph, photogravure, intaglio, dry point, and monotype. Her new Eco prints reflect her ongoing effort to beckon viewers into the ambiguous space between abstraction and reality in her attempts to make us aware of a precious moment in time forever past. The work of both artists creates an interesting visual dialogue between the artist, the process, and mother nature.
